The Forest Research Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is accredited to provide training in five doctoral programs within the academic field of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, in the professional fields 6.5 Forestry and 6.1 Crop Production, as well as one doctoral program within the academic field of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Informatics, in the professional field 4.3 Biological Sciences. Three modes of doctoral study are offered: Full-time (duration: 3 years), Part-time (duration: 4 years) and Independent PhD study (duration: 5 years). Admission to full-time and part-time doctoral programs is based on a competitive entrance examination in the relevant scientific discipline, as announced in the State Gazette, and a foreign language examination. Enrolment in an independent-study doctoral program is based on a previously developed substantial part of the dissertation, which must be reviewed and approved at a seminar of the respective department of the Forest Research Institute.
